Green Globe certification
The Green Globe award for the Kurhaus Wiesbaden is a further milestone on the way to establishing Wiesbaden as a resource-conserving congress and conference location, which already scores highly in terms of sustainability thanks to its central location, short distances in the city and the many green spaces.
Award received for the third time
Kurhaus Wiesbaden was awarded Green Globe for the first time in November 2022 and has now also met the requirements of Green Globe Standard 1.8. in the Conferece Center category.
The annual re-certifications in subsequent years to date are proof of the further development and efforts. The seal of approval impressively documents the ecological, social and economic progress of the Kurhaus.
What is Green Globe?
Green Globe is a seal of quality that has been extended from the tourism industry to the event industry and is considered one of the most important certifications in the event industry. It includes extensive criteria that meet the requirements for a resource-friendly congress and conference location.
Criteria and qualification
The Green Globe Standard has been developed over three decades and enables consistent progress toward sustainable operations and management
The audit checklist, which includes 44 mandatory criteria and 380 additional criteria, governs, among other things:
- the implementation of a sustainability management system
- measures for employee safety and health protection
- a security program
- the conservation of resources in terms of purchasing policies, energy and water consumption, food procurement, and a waste management plan
To ensure compliance with high international standards, an independent auditor is commissioned annually to inspect the location.
Full compliance with the requirements is mandatory for a client to become certified or to maintain certification. Partial compliance is not sufficient. Only if compliance with the 40 mandatory criteria is confirmed during this audit can the client receive the certificate. In addition, a significant portion of the more than 300 additional criteria must also be met. In total, 51% of the entire criteria catalog must be met for initial certification.
Unlike some other certifications, Green Globe focuses on continuous improvement. Certified facilities commit not only to meeting the mandatory criteria but also to improving their performance in various areas of sustainability from year to year.
