Access road from Sonnenberger Straße closed on May 8!
At Sonnenberger Straße 36, the stairway access to the Wiesbaden Kurpark had to be renewed. The steps have now been completed. Contrasting markings are still being applied to the front edges of the steps. For this purpose, the access must be closed on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Background
The staircase had become noticeably sloped, primarily due to the heavy and at times prolonged rainfall in 2025 and the resulting progressive scouring of the subsoil. Because of the unstable subsoil, combined with the staircase material becoming increasingly porous due to wear and tear, structural stability could no longer be guaranteed.
Plans for the staircase’s renovation were already drawn up in 2025. The first construction phase, the path construction, began at the end of February 2026 and has since been completed. The measurements for the two handrails can only be taken after the path construction is finished, so their completion is expected to take another four to six weeks.
Regardless, the staircase was reopened on April 17, 2026, with a temporary fall protection system. Use is therefore generally possible again, though with certain restrictions until the final handrails are installed. Visitors are asked to exercise increased caution and understanding.
The nearest access to the spa gardens is still available via Josef-von-Lauff-Straße or through the main entrance at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden.
